Jazz is always a diverse and multicultural genre of music, defined so far before such concepts exist, a continuous mix of people, feelings and music. Starting from this idea, the gesture of organizing an important jazz event in Timisoara, a symbol of multiculturalism in Romania and in this part of Europe, is a natural and also symbolic one.
A music festival creates a symbol for the city that organizes it, becomes part of its identity and strengthens it. The JAZZ ™ festival is just celebrating the vibrant cultural energy of Timisoara, in Victoriei Square.
Why a festival co-financed from public funds in Timisoara? First of all because it is extremely important to define culture as a common good, accessible to everyone and not as a commercial product available on the basis of financial rules. It is a form to assume the role of the City Hall of Timisoara as guarantor of this principle. Cultural policy is what can define the society of tomorrow, one in which we not only wonder what we live, but also why we live and how we live together. It is in Timisoara's interest to host major cultural events, it is in Timisoara's interest to stimulate the cultural life of the fortress in all its forms.
